Classification and labelling of hazardous substances and mixtures is regulated consistently within Europe. The rules are stipulated in the European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, also known as the CLP Regulation.

Additionally the CLP Regulation also sets rules for packaging of hazardous substances and lists legally binding classification for a number of substances.
